Reduce your PDF file size.
Reduce the size of your PDF so it is easier to share by email or upload. Compression runs entirely in your browser.
Is this tool really free?
Yes. Every tool on this site is free, with no account or sign-up required.
Are my files uploaded to your servers?
No. All processing happens in your browser, so your files never leave your device.
Will the text stay searchable?
No. Compression turns each page into an image, so text is no longer selectable. It works best on scanned documents.
This tool re-renders every page of your PDF at a lower resolution and quality setting, right in your browser. That is why image heavy and scanned PDFs shrink the most. A scanned page is basically a photo, and photos take up most of the file size. A PDF made of typed text and vector graphics is already efficient, so it may only shrink a little, no matter which level you pick.
Low keeps quality closest to the original and is a good choice when the file only needs to be a bit smaller. Medium is the best balance for email attachments and upload forms. High gives the smallest file, but fine print and thin lines can get fuzzy. If you need an exact target such as 100KB, start at medium, check the result, and run the file through again at a stronger level if it is still too big. Compressing twice is a normal way to hit a tight limit.
Open the compressed file and look at the smallest text on the page. If it is still readable, you are good. Also confirm the page count did not change and the file opens on your phone, since that is often where the recipient will read it.
Will compression make my PDF blurry?
It can, at high levels. Text and thin lines lose sharpness first. If quality matters, use low or medium and check the smallest text before sending.
Why did my text PDF barely shrink?
Typed text compresses very well already. Most of the size in a PDF comes from images, so a document with few images has little left to squeeze out.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no account and no limit on our side. Very large files simply take longer, because all the work happens in your browser.
